David Hobbs on the crash, reflecting years later:
"The car had been experiencing gear box troubles and during the race the box was stripped down and replaced minus third gear. Going into the Esses, while I was driving, I could not get any gear and arrived in neutral and spun into the bank, putting us out of the race. A great shame as the car had terrific potential."
